CRS Strikes Again!

I hope they come up with a cure for my CRS soon, because its really starting to have a negative impact on my life. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this particular malady, CRS stands for Can’t Remember…um..Stuff. I’ve been suffering from it for years.

Back in April, I received a notice that my car was soon due for an emissions inspection. I had a couple of days off before we left for our Florida trip, and actually had the thought at one point, “Gee, I should go get my emissions test done now so that I don’t forget about it…again.” (Yes, I forgot about it 2 years ago and had it inspected late!) Way back then, though, May 16th seemed really far away, and I had a lot of other things to do to prepare for our trip, so I did not follow through on this thought.

Today, while cleaning off my mess of a desk, I came across my Maryland Vehicle Emissions Inspection Notice. Due date: May 16th…4 days ago. Oops! I guess I know what I’ll be doing at lunch time tomorrow. The best part is, had I done it 4 days ago, it would have cost me $14. Now it will cost me $29. It just doesn’t seem right somehow that the late fee is higher than the initial inspection fee. Citibank once charged me a $25 late fee because I paid my credit card bill 1 day late – and the entire balance on the card was less than $20. I argued that and got the charge taken off, but something tells me I won’t be so lucky with the VEIP.

On another note, I’ve been in kind of a “purging” mood lately – and no, that doesn’t mean I’ve become a bulimic! The living room furniture that I brought with me when we moved into this condo has never really fit into the space here – it way just way too big. Well, last week I put an ad on craigslist and sold it. I sold my couch, 2 wing chairs, an end table, a foyer table and a matching mirror. What did I replace it with, you ask? A rug (pictured above). Now, don’t get me wrong, we’re not sitting on the floor now. I still have a cream-colored recliner that I inherited when my mother moved from her house to her condo and had to downsize, and a purple chair that I bought on Overstock.com. Eventually, I will get some more furniture – a loveseat at least – but for now, I am really liking the extra space in the living room!

In addition to the furniture purge, I finally went through the last few boxes left over from our move last year. I now have 2 boxes of “keep” – most of which will eventually go into the hall bathroom once I get motivated and paint in there – and 3 or 4 boxes of stuff to take to Goodwill. There is also a nightstand and a huge plastic storage container full of stuffed animals (don’t tell Megan!) that I plan to donate. This morning I got up and went through my dresser (one of them, anyway) and pulled out about 20 sweaters and tops to get rid of as well. Next stop: the hall closet. I know I don’t need *all* of those sheets and towels!!!

**An Update**
I did not read my horoscope for today until after I’d posted my blog. It reads as follows:

There’s nothing wrong with having stuff. But when it gets to the point where stuff isn’t enhancing your life, but preventing you from having one, it’s time to let it go. What about having a garage sale or donating to charity?
