Gettin’ it DONE!

I finally got around to getting a few things (that were way overdue!) done today, like taking down the Christmas tree and decorations, and visiting the optometrist for an eye exam. The decorations were only a week or two past their prime (in my defense, I put them up kind of late, too!), but I haven’t had my vision checked in at least 3 years. That’s way too long to be wearing the same pair of contact lenses! (Don’t freak out too much, they were meant to be worn for a year, they weren’t the 2-week disposable kind…)

Now, I have a brand new, slightly stronger pair, and I no longer feel the need to stick my finger in my eye every 2 minutes and move the contact lens around in the hopes of working up a little moisture. This time around I *did* decide to try the 1-month disposables, so every 30 days I’ll have a nice, new pair. Hopefully when the year-long supply runs out, I’ll actually take myself back to the eye doctor for my next exam.

I can still remember the first time I got glasses. I was 10 years old, and had just finished the 5th grade. My (then) Aunt Barbara had taken me either roller or ice skating (sue me, it *was* 27 years ago!), and when I kept asking her what kind of skate it was (free skate, couples, backwards, etc.) because I couldn’t read the signs on the wall, she ratted me out to my parents, who promptly took me for an eye exam. To this day I can remember walking out of that optometrist’s office wearing my new glasses and being amazed that I could see individual leaves on the tall trees behind the office building. Before that day, I had only ever seen big, green blobs on brown trunks.

Hope you’re all having a great weekend and that your trees all have leaves!
