I’m not sure why, but for some reason whenever I am at home, I am not allowed to go to the bathroom without an escort. It doesn’t seem to matter what time it is, either. Whether it’s 2 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning, I am almost always accompanied to the restroom by at least 1 cat, sometimes by as many as 3.
I haven’t yet figured out if they’re protecting me from the bathroom, or protecting the bathroom from me…anyway….
Earlier today, I was in the bathroom doing what people typically do in the bathroom, and Harley was my escort/protector/prison guard of the moment. She sat on the counter while I sat on the…throne…
After a couple of seconds, she suddenly stood up, turned around to face the wall, and very deliberately reached up with her front paws and turned off the bathroom light. She then sat back down and looked at me innocently as I said, “Hey! Turn that back on.”
Maybe it was easier on her eyes to see the evil things she was trying to protect you from with the lights out.
I dunno what it is either. Bess does the same thing, the escort part at least. And now she's come to collect me to go to bed. Get that, the alarm clock cat… tells me when to go to bed, cause she sure as heck will tell me when to get up!!
Having five furry guards, myself, I think I can deduce the Obvious (to a cat) reasoning: More goes on in the dark than in the light.
Jenny, it's like we live parallel existence(s?) .
I often wonder the same thing, too… am I being protected in some way? lol… from some unseen force of nature I had no idea existed until very recently, solely due to the odd behavior(s) of my cat(s)? What raises my eyebrow is when Teaguean will come into the bathroom, walk to the middle of the room, turn around and stare at the door in a laying “ready” position. If another cat walks in? She does not move from this position, so what the heck is she “on the ready” for?? lol oy?
That is the CUTEST picture so far!!!!
That picture was taken the first day that she and her sister figured out how to use the kitty door. Now she's so big, she hardly fits through it anymore!
I had a cat.
for five years. sniff. had to give him away this year.
he followed me everywhere.
and I'd hold him while I sat on the toilet some times.
.
That's one of the 4 times in the day when Harley actually wants me to hold her…when I am on the toilet, when I have just gotten dressed for work and have already defurified my clothes (lol), when I am at the computer working on something, or when I am asleep. Other than that, she's not interested in affection.
EXACTLY!
Gideon was the same.
He liked to be near you, but not held. unless….ha.
